Cold-Headed-Products

Cold Headed Parts

Cold heading, also referred to as Cold Forming, is a manufacturing process, starting with coiled wire or rod (steel, stainless, copper, aluminum, brass, etc.) being fed into a cold heading machine. The wire is automatically cut to a pre-determined length, partially inserted into a die and upset to form the head and/or another feature, such as a round shoulder. By forming the product in this manner, the materials grain structure is maintained, thus making it a stronger product. Standard parts such a pan head tapping or machine screws are formed on a single die, two-blow header. More complicated parts, with large heads, shoulders, or varied diameters in the shank, are normally headed on a multi-die, multi-blow header. Unlike machining, ...

Metal-Forming

Metal Forming

By taking our Cold Headed Product, or even product provided by our customer, Acme can utilize our specialized Punch Press Metal Forming equipment and techniques to bend, flatten, pierce, or crimp metal parts. A single pierced hole, or multiple holes, can be produced in a single operation, and therefore save money compared to a drilling operation. We are capable of bending and forming parts with multiple angles and radii. Using these techniques some of the product Acme has manufactured include chair and oven handles, eye bolts, axles, and parts used in Plastic Injection Molding. All of these processes are designed to achieve quality finished products with one company. The engineered design is based upon each application and the ...

Secondary-Operations

Secondary Capabilities

Acme’s secondary operations comprise a vast array of specialized equipment. In addition to the punch press operations referenced in our metal forming category, these machines perform drilling, tapping, shaving, pointing, trimming, slotting, and rolling (both rolled threads and rolled knurls) operations.

Although the majority of our secondary operations provide added value for parts that are wholly produced in our plants, The Acme Companies also welcome contract work from our customers who may have limited secondary capabilities, allowing them to capture products they were unable to offer in the past.

Automatic-Assembly-Machine

Equipment & Machine Design

The Acme Companies have hundreds of production machines. The majority of our equipment, for the variety our processes (heading slotting, rolling, etc.), is purchased from specific equipment manufacturers. Following a full analysis of our customer’s specific needs, we have designed and produced specialized equipment to automate an assembly for a finished product. One example of a current part we produce, is an assembly that includes a shoulder screw, a flat washer, and a copolymer wheel. The end product is a dish rack roller assembly used in an automatic dishwasher.
